“Conscientia,” Sebastian Picker’s most recent and refined body of work, illustrates the artist’s profoundly thoughtful inner-dialogue. For Picker the term conscientia, Latin for conscience, delves deeper than contemporary English translation. Conscience, defined as a moral sense of awareness between right and wrong, does not fully characterize his intent. For Picker conscientia connotes, more thoroughly, self-reflection and an intrinsic propensity for calm judgement and practical wisdom. Similar to a philosopher who explores the relation of self to the world, Picker utilizes painting as a visual tool enabling him to discover meaning in his life and his surroundings.
Sebastian Picker is currently painting in Guadalajara, Mexico. His works are housed in museum collections throughout North America and abroad including: Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe, Santa Fe, NM; Albuquerque Museum of Art; Albuquerque, NM; Fundacio Villa Casa, Barcelona, Spain. He has exhibited extensively throughout New York, Boston, New Mexico, Central and South America, and Spain.
